Must-Have Hand-Tools For Professional Plumbing & Drainage Contractors

Plumbing and drainage contractors need a compact, repeat-use kit for the blockages and repairs that fill a service day. The centerpiece is the drain-cleaning hand tool family — and TORCHMARK builds it for both household and professional blockage removal, chemical-free and jobsite-ready.

This guide lists the core tools contractors carry and the same line distributors should stock for the plumbing trade. Start from our complete HVAC & plumbing tools guide for the full context.

1. Drain Auger (Drain Cleaner)

Our JQ-020A, JQ-020B and JQ-020C drain cleaners cover a 5–15 m cable-length range. They use high-tensile carbon-steel spring wire with a corkscrew head and high-impact plastic housing, in offset-crank and straight-handle versions, with drill-operated options (drill power delivered through vinyl tubing). Contractors pick the cable length and handle style to match the call.

2. Rod-Set Drain Cleaner

For longer runs, the rod-set drain cleaner (10 rods × 920 mm, assembled length ~9 m) gives reach and torque for bigger blockages. The rods are built from polypropylene with zinc-alloy / brass fittings for durability in the line.

3. Plunger

A simple, reliable first response. We supply plungers with a large head for toilets and a small head for sinks, so the contractor carries the right tool for the fixture.

4. Pipe Wrench And Basin Wrench

General plumbing calls still need grip and access tools for fittings and traps. A pipe wrench plus a basin wrench round out the service bag.

A Note On Toilet Safety

Our drain-cleaner cable tools are not suitable for toilets — the cable may mark ceramic bowls. For toilet blockages use the plunger (large head), and consult us regarding suitability for tight S-traps and sharp bends before specifying a cable tool. Distributors should pass this guidance to buyers so the right tool is chosen.

Building The Kit For Resale

Bundle the JQ-020 series, rod-set and plungers as a “drainage service set,” and add the general wrenches as a separate SKU. The whole family shares the same private-label and consolidated-shipping program.
