Hand Rivet Gun Types Compared
"Rivet gun" is used for two different tools: the blind-rivet (pop-rivet) gun and the rivet-nut gun. Mixing them up leads to buying the wrong tool. Here is the clear comparison.
Blind rivet gun (pop rivet)
Sets a blind rivet: it pulls a mandrel that expands the rivet body to clamp two materials, then the mandrel snaps off. One-way, permanent joint. Great for sheet metal where both sides are accessible enough to place the rivet.
Rivet nut gun (nut-sert)
Installs a threaded insert so you can later bolt parts together and remove them. Used where you need a reusable thread in thin or blind material. See our hand rivet nut tools.
