Oil Can Sample Evaluation: Check Reach, Grip and Delivery Before a Wholesale Order
A capacity figure cannot tell a distributor whether an oil can will reach a customer's lubrication point or be comfortable to operate. Build the sample evaluation around a specific job and record the supplied configuration. This is a suggested buyer checklist, not a report of completed Torchmark tests.
1. Define the use case before requesting samples
Record the lubricant name and viscosity, normal operating temperature, access-point position and the working space around it. Ask the supplier to confirm compatibility before filling the sample. Obtain the supplied operating instructions and follow the lubricant's handling guidance.
2. Keep capacity and configuration separate
The Torchmark catalog lists CJ-005 at 250 cc, CJ-006 at 350 cc and CJ-007 at 500 cc under European Oil Can – Standard Handle. It does not give spout length or pump material for this group. Ask for these details instead of assuming they match another oil can with the same capacity.
3. Make a repeatable observation record
| Check | Record | Resolve before ordering |
|---|---|---|
| Reach | Access-point position and clearance with the supplied spout | Can the tip reach without forcing or bending parts? |
| Grip | Fill level, glove type and operator comments | Can the user hold and operate it in the intended position? |
| Delivery | Fluid, temperature, orientation and observations following instructions | Is delivery controllable for the job? |
| After use | Visible seepage or residual drips under the agreed handling conditions | Which observations require supplier review? |
| Identification | Model, sample date, photographs and supplied components | Does the quotation describe the approved configuration? |
Agree acceptance criteria with the supplier before evaluation. A short sample check does not establish lifetime, chemical resistance or a certified leakage rating. Keep actual observations separate from marketing claims.
4. Return actionable feedback
Instead of reporting only “the sample is unsuitable,” identify the model and describe the exact limitation: insufficient access clearance, awkward operation with the intended gloves, or a difference between the requested and delivered spout. Attach photographs and the recorded conditions. Ask for a confirmed configuration before approving the bulk order.
5. Connect approval to the purchase order
Record the approved model and components in the order. For carton quantities and mixed-order questions, use our oil can purchase-order checklist. Browse the oil can category to prepare a model shortlist.
Our minimum order is 500 pieces, with mixed orders subject to confirmed allocation. Samples are charged; sample freight is refunded after an order is placed. Typical lead time is 15–45 days, subject to the confirmed order.
