Wall-thickness drift on the flare is a leading cause of cracked brake line under pressure. The BLF-24 dies are machined and inspected to keep wall-thickness drift ≤ 0.02 mm — within the SAE J533 limit for brake pipe flares.

4 Failure Modes We Screen Before Shipment
From 8 years of exporting brake flaring tools, these are the defects our QC team flags most often. The BLF-24 is built to keep each one out of your shipment:
- Die concentricity drift > 0.05 mm → produces oval flares that won't seat. Our Cr12MoV dies are held to ≤ 0.05 mm TIR (Total Indicator Reading) on a V-block gauge before assembly.
- Wall-thickness drift on flare > 0.02 mm → crack source under 1,000 psi brake pressure. We section-test each lot to confirm drift is inside SAE J533 limits.
- Copper contamination on cutter wheel → transfers copper to steel tubing, causing corrosion. The BLF-24 cutter wheel is ground on a dedicated line; we do not share wheels between steel and copper production runs.
- Bending lever pinch on 3/16" tube → kinked brake line fails pressure test. The BLF-24 lever is matched to 22 mm bend radius for 3/16" — verified on a go/no-go gauge per lot.
How to Use the BLF-24 on a 3/16" Brake Line (6 Steps)
- Cut the tubing square with the included cutter. A square cut is the #1 determinant of a good flare.
- Deburr both inside and outside edges with the double-edge tool — burrs cause pressure leaks.
- Insert the tubing into the flaring block until it protrudes the height of the die nipple.
- Clamp the block, fit the correct die (3/16" for most brake lines), and tighten the yoke.
- Rotate the handle clockwise until the cone forms a 45° flare (single) or two-stage fold (double).
- Release the clamp, fit the brake line fitting, and torque to the vehicle maker's spec (typically 11–14 ft-lb for 3/16" inverted flare).
Step 1 is the most common mistake we see from new users: an angled cut makes the flare wall uneven, and the fitting leaks under pressure.
Care & Maintenance Schedule
- Wipe dies and cone dry after each use — moisture + chloride is the leading cause of surface pitting.
- Light machine oil on the cone threads every 50 cycles, or before storage.
- Replace the cutter wheel when the edge shows a 0.2 mm wear flat (a spare wheel ships in the case).
- Re-calibrate die concentricity once per year if the kit sees daily fleet use — torque specs must still hold.

3. Can I get a custom die set (e.g. ISO bubble flare or metric DIN)?
Yes. We can replace one or more of the 5 standard dies with an ISO 4038 bubble-flare die, a DIN 74234 die, or a JIS B 0203 PT die on orders of 300+ sets. Sample tooling lead time 30 days.
4. What replacement parts are available?
Cutter wheels (each), 5-die sets, bending levers, blow-mold cases, foam inserts, and yoke repair kits. All replacement parts can be ordered separately — minimum 50 pieces per line item.
5. What is the HS code and shipping mark?
HS code 8205.59 (hand tools, other). Default shipping mark is OEM-neutral. Custom shipping mark is free of charge on orders of 500+ sets.
